On March 25, 2026, IBSUniversity students third and final year students were privileged to attend the insightful employability 5 session titled “Understanding the Retail and Wholesale Industry,” delivered by Kumar Baliah, Chief Executive Officer of Theodist Ltd. The session was designed to provide students with practical knowledge of how the retail and wholesale sectors operate, while also highlighting career opportunities and the qualifications needed to succeed in this dynamic industry.
The retail and wholesale industry plays a crucial role in the global and local economy, serving as the link between manufacturers and end consumers. Wholesale businesses focus on purchasing goods in large quantities from producers and distributing them to retailers or other businesses, while retail businesses sell directly to consumers.

In this session students gained a clearer understanding of how these sectors are interconnected and how they contribute to economic growth, employment, and market accessibility. In Papua New Guinea, companies like Theodist Ltd demonstrate the importance of strong distribution networks and customer engagement strategies in sustaining the industry.

Kumar Baliah emphasized that efficiency in operations is essential for maintaining product availability and meeting customer demands.
